Open Collaboration in ARCHICAD – Merge ArchiCAD project into existing IFC files

It is now possible to merge ArchiCAD Project
data into an existing IFC file without affecting the already existing Engineering IFC data.
This feature can be useful coordinating workflows where the IFC file contains full reference
projects. If we take a simple ArchiCAD file of four
Walls and save it as an IFC file, this is how the project now looks in an IFC Viewer. Let us say that we have created some addition
to our 4 Walls within the ArchiCAD Project. We can select these new Walls… then activate
the File… File Special… IFC 2×3… Merge to IFC Model
menu command. After that we only need to select the file
we want to merge the additional elements to. The Export field will default to the Selected
elements only option if elements were selected when activating the command… but there are
some other options we can choose as well. We can also use the Model Filter and Settings
buttons to modify how the IFC data is converted before merging. They work just as in case
of normal IFC export. Then we click the Open button which will open
the selected IFC file and merge our data to it. If we now reopen this file in the IFC Viewer…
we can see that those additional Walls we selected have been merged to the IFC file.
